The community was named after Robert Morris, financier of the Revolution.
Mount Morris is a gateway to Letchworth State Park along the Genesee River. The park is named for the late philanthropist William Pryor Letchworth, who donated the land to the state in 1906. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a $300,000 grant for park improvements in 2020.
Former New York City police detective Greg O’Connell, who helped rejuvenate Red Hook, NY, by buying and renovating properties in the 1980s, later tried the same approach here. His efforts resulted in an immediate spike in Main Street commercial activity.
